Diamond Sharpeners

These work quickly, are easily carried (i.e. in a pocket or tool bag), sharpen without the need for oil or water to lubricate and will maintain their flat sharpening surface. These qualities make them an ideal ‘on the job’ sharpening tool when working remotely.

A key points to note with diamond sharpeners:

  • You don’t need to use the sharpener with heavy pressure on the blade cutting edge. Light pressure when using the sharpener works more effectively.
  • Use regularly, a few strokes with the sharpener each day when using tools will keep them sharp. Don’t wait until the cutting edge becomes dull.
  • Use a coarse sharpener (e.g. 300-400 grit, 60-45 microns) to remove burs and repair chips.
  • Use a medium sharpener (e.g. 600 grit, 25 microns) to finish, provide an extra fine edge. N.B. For garden/forestry/horticultural use, you don’t need to use a fine sharpener for the extra polish you might go for on e.g. a kitchen knife.
  • Used correctly your tools and the diamond sharpeners will last longer.
